What is a Kansa Wand?
Ayurvedic medicine is one of the oldest medical practices in the world. It focuses on the wellness of the mind, body, and spirit, and promotes good health. The Kansa wand comes from India and is an Ayurvedic facial massage device designed to balance your doshas (the three energy types in your body), chakras, and pH level.
Kansa is a metal blend of copper, tin, and zinc, and was created around 5,000 years ago. This tool is a simple metal ball shaped tool with a handle. The metal is supposed to have extraordinary soothing and beauty enhancing properties. The wand is used by running the wand in small, circular movements over the forehead, brow bones, and jawline. However, the Kansa wand treatment is very relaxing and can align your body, mind, and spirit.
What are the benefits of a Kansa Wand?
Kansa wands are used in Ayurvedic healing techniques to help restore a youthful complexion, a more tightened and tone appearance, reduce inflammation, congestion, and help ease headaches and other aches and pains. The Kansa Wand treatment also is very relaxing, reduces stress and provides a gentle face-lifting therapy along with these other benefits:
- Revitalizes face, shoulder, and neck muscles
- Gently lifts facial skin
- Reduces face pain, head pain and tension
- Reduces acidity
- Unifies body, mind and spirit
- Promotes muscle comfort and reduce facial tension
- Helps to calm the mind and improve mental clarity
- Reduces stress and muscle fatigue
- Promotes vitality
The Kansa Wand will also balance the pH of the skin because of the metal’s alkaline properties. Skin that is high in acid content or just general imbalance can cause sensitivity, premature aging, wrinkles, inflammation or acne can really benefit from these treatments. By balancing the pH of the skin, it can improve skin texture, reduce puffiness and other aging issues. It also brings out that glow from the renewed oxygenated blood.
Utilizing Kansa Wands in Treatments
This a fabulous addition in any treatment room using holistic approaches to skin care because it can be used on all skin types and has few contraindications. It can even be used in oncology esthetics and with very sensitive clients. Kansa wands come in different sizes to use on different parts of the body. For facial treatments, find a smaller wand that can easily be maneuvered over the entire face. Begin with a healing oil or serum for the specific skin type of the client that is oil based to keep the skin lubricated during the entire treatment. The Kansa wand needs the oil to properly glide over the skin providing a warm, relaxing, and comfortable sensation. It feels cool and as it’s massaged around the face the wand warms up to body temperature and can barely be felt.
The Kansa Wand provides gentle friction to facial muscles which helps pull acidity from the tissues. Sometimes the oils will often turn grey if acids are present in the skin that can be gently wiped off after the treatment. A skilled Ayurvedic practitioner will know how to stimulate the meridians and helps the flow of the chakra grid. Helping your body to heal, relieving tension and pains, and improving the look and feel of your skin.
Sessions are approximately 10-20 minutes and work is done on the face starting with the forehead, going down the right side, and then up the left side and ending back at the forehead. Clockwise circular motions are carried out in the middle of the forehead. There are many books, videos, online courses, CD’s and other educational tools to learn how to effectively give a Kansa Wand treatment.
